The one and only time that there is an ontological change in the reproductive process is at conception, when the 23 chromosomes from the father's sperm cell unites with the 23 chromosomes in the mother's oocyte (aka egg) to become a unicellular human being with 46 chromosomes... the same chromosomes that nascent human being will carry for the rest of his or her life.
