Also, studies on the outcome of women who became pregnant because of rape had difficulty in getting enough women because that is actually a fairly rare occurrence. Women are only fertile for a couple of days a month and if they go to a hospital for treatment right after a rape impregnation can be prevented in the vast majority of cases. They can use spermicides, barriers, flushes and anti-ovulation drugs to prevent conception.

For what it's worth, in those studies most women who did become pregnant did NOT want to have an abortion. A few did, but most of those regretted that decision, many quite bitterly so. Some said that the memory of the rape faded away over time, but the memory of the abortion continues to haunt them decades later. Many said that the abortion was more traumatic for them than the abortion. They felt just as violated by the abortion.

Killing their child didn't make the rape go away. It just made them complicit in the killing of their own child.

Of those that kept their child or gave their child up for adoption, they were universally happy that they had done so. It was the one redeeming feature of the traumatic experience they had endured. They did something good and wonderful as a response to the evil that had been perpetrated upon them. Of those that kept their children many had become best friends. Their love for their child was in no way diminished, in fact the love between them was often stronger than the typical mother/child bond.
