Kid two doors down was older than me by a few years. He gave me his Scouting backpack and some other Boy Scout gear when he shipped to Vietnam. Saw him at a gas station when he got out. Numerous broken teeth from fighting and probably an alcoholic.
Those who came back deserved better.
Still have the backpack and mess kit, btw.
