not to intervene. We are to call for help. I personally cannot stand by and watch a student get pummeled and have always stepped in to stop it.
I will say though that the only time I have ever been punched was when I was breaking up a cat fight. Guys will usually back off when an adult steps in or at least try very hard not to strike the adult. In the back of their minds they know there a much more serious consequences if they happens.
When females fight they totally rage out. The only way to stop them in my experience is to physically separate them. If both want to fight it usually takes two adults.
In this case the teacher had to do something, just standing there was wrong IMO.
