nothing. Societal expectations have changed to the point that we're told these crimes are petty and the government shouldn't be wasting their time prosecuting them. So, if the government isn't going to do anything, why should the guard?
And don't think the criminals don't know this because they certainly have stepped up their efforts to execute the stealing. You can see that the criminal isn't worried in any way about his actions as he calmly strolls away with his loot.
And, when Rite Aid closes all these stores, you can bet we'll hear the outcry about the impact to the poorer neighborhoods. Where are the decent people in these neighborhoods that should be standing up to decry the crime? Where are the decent people who should be advocating a society that labels these actions as wrong that sets the mores of the community?
Oh, that's right, they're scared to speak up because they'll probably be shot for it.
