We've pretty much completely deregulated the firearms industry. Both Smith and Wesson thank you. You can pretty much kill anyone now with a gun and claim self-defense and get away with it, especially if your "attacker" has a skateboard.

So things definitely go both ways as far as regulation goes. The ecological lobbyists aren't as powerful as the gun lobbyists, so the gun sellers have won so far while the environment has lost. It depends which side you lobbyists are on.

However, the more disturbing trend is with voting rights and states taking away elections from the voters and placing them in the hands of the state legislatures. This is basically how Hungary has turned into a right-wing totalitarian state. By using religion, neoliberalism, and a racist brand of nationalism, Orban has turned Hungary into a fascist dream state. And ultra-right wing politicians in this country are following Orban's playbook.

So, you're apparently going to need to abstain a lot harder.
