In MU's last two games, they have failed to generate more than 6 assists in either contest.
Prior to 2014, MU had never had a season in which it avged less than 12 assists per game since assists became an official stat. In the 9 years since 2014, 6 times MU has avged less than 12 assists per game.
In the 5 seasons between 2008 and 2012 MU had an avg national ranking of 16th in assists per game. In Phil Pressey's final season at MU, despite him smashing the individual program assist records as a team we fell all the way to 101st nationally. Over the next 9 seasons MU has had an average national ranking of 274th in assists per game, with 7 instances of 270th or worse.
So while it is true the quality of play in college basketball has decreased dramatically, MU is a considerable outlier and one of the worst nationally in generating baskets via assists over a rather prolonged period of time. There may not be another stat that so closely parallels the collapse of MU basketball than team assists.
