Poorer women have to resort to those options because they can't afford the baby or the potential 1000 mile + trip to get to a state that doesn't treat women as second-class citizens, and perhaps the measures they took to prevent the pregnancy in the first place failed.


There's also a correlation of higher crime rates in places that ban choice than those that allow it. Read Freakonomics (or see the film) for more details. While they (and I) stop short of claiming causation, there definitely is statistically significant correlation.
