It’s not just 2 wins against lesser competition.
We could have played 2 decent P5 teams (and by that I do not mean Illinois). And we could have gotten one or two significant wins that would enhance our NCAA resume. That’s opportunity was lost. And we are kicking away multiple potential significant wins by loading up our non con schedule with so many cupcakes.
This schedule is completely lopsided, with one team way better than us in Baylor (you can be assured Pingeton did not want any part of that game, she didn’t have a choice in it), one other tough game against MO State, and 11 relative cupcakes. To use a donut analogy, there is literally no creamy filling in the middle of the schedule, it is completely unbalanced, and because of that we are kicking away opportunities to get significant wins that will help our tourney resume. That’s a fact.
You can dismiss that, but let’s see what our SOS is at the end of the year, and let’s total up the top 25 and top 50 wins. If we come up a few short we are going to regret it. If, as a big Missouri fan, your ultimate goal is for the team to make the NCAAs with the highest seed possible. If that’s not your goal, then fine.
And this isn’t a “this season” problem. This is par for the course for Pingeton, who seems more interested in padding her won loss record during the non con part of the schedule. Even at the programs apex, when Sophie was a junior and senior, she refused to give the kids a big girls schedule. It’s just her nature.
