agree that we aren't in a position where we can afford to make a risky hire. If our next coach doesn't work out, does it really matter and what have we lost?
MU is in the position of having an enormous amount of resources at our disposal due to being in the SEC, almost a complete absence of any level of expectations, and being able to make a very risky hire that doesn't work out at all and not really losing any fan support or program credibility because both are almost entirely gone anyway. We last won an NCAA tourney game in 2010. Even assuming a tremendous hire is made and a roster rebuild is very successful we are probably looking at a 15 year gap in a best case scenario where we could realistically win another tourney game.
