different timeliness depending on resources devoted to development, how far along the base of knowledge is before development.
There is no set wait period between completion of phase 3 trials and FDA approval.
The mumps vaccine took 4 years from the start of them collecting viral samples to approval. Part of that approval includes production runs which the FDA inspects and those were live attenuated virus vaccines which grow in eggs, a slower process.
The "long run" issue is bunk as vaccines were never monitored for years prior to approval.
