downstairs bar on Broadway. He was doing a stand-up bit in Columbia the next night. Nice guy. Pretty reserved actually.

Buddy of my brother was an alternate music fan back in the late 70s/early 80s. Listened to this AM station out of Memphis I believe and got into this band called U2. Was like 12 years old and got his mom to take him to a show in Memphis where they were opening for like J. Geils Band. No one really knew them at this point. I think "Boy" had just been released. Anyway, he's waiting outside the hotel where he'd heard they were and they're out by the street just standing there. Turns out their ride to the venue stood them up, so he and his mom gave them a ride to the show. Got backstage passes too.
