factually true that this was NOT Trump's doing and Trump was taking the beating by the media about it all - they would have said it then.

Perhaps A clearing of the park had been planned at some point to put up fencing. THAT is not what the optics showed. And had it been the case, again Trump PR would have been all over it. That they weren't tells you a lot.
