A mob of a thousand whites had already gathered. Blacks showed up to stop them from lynching the accused, who was likely innocent. No charges had been filed against him, and weren't going to be. Lynchings were actively happening there and around the south. 10 witnesses said the sheriff had asked for blacks to help, but when they arrived, the sheriff said he had things in hand. A shot was fired. Nobody admits by whom. I would guess white. If blacks had started it, scores of whites would have said so. Blacks were slaughtered there and the black community was attacked, decimating everything. The government has admitted their wrongdoing. Reparations authorized.

I'm no fan of BLM and their agenda, but this was a terrible injustice perpetrated on the entire black community in that city. It's a fact.
