The Jew in Jesus' day had no concept of the suspension of the clock with regard to the 70 weeks of Daniel. Only after Christ's resurrection is it discussed, but not immediately.
They were in the last days of the 70 weeks, and then the pause button was pushed, and the time of the gentiles began. We are still in the pause period within the last days of the 70 weeks of Daniel.
