five i think, a special team of trainers were brought in to preach the gospel of diversity and love.
The presumed leader was a short, fat, ugly and stupid woman who wore sweat pants and a mickey mouse sweatshirt to lead (preach to) a group of managers in the company.
It was a three day, all day session.
As i grew more and more tired of pretending that these idiots had anything important or relevant to tell us, my tone and tenor in the meetings became just a bit more, edgy shall we say?
My best friend in the group was an older woman of about 50 who was gay and of german descent. Being of similar heritage i kidded her all the time about being pretty nice for a nazi, or something. She had a very german name and a very heavy german accent.
Well the fat ugly stupid facilitator focused iirc, on prejudice against people of different nationalities focused most sharply duh, on african nationalities.
I'd had about enough of mickey mouse and sweat pants so i said something like, "Well what about "hilda" here, she's just a kraut and no one cares for her anyway."
A few eyes rolled in my teammates but no one said anything. But mickey mouse was OUTRAGED, and i think pleased at the same time. She finally had something and someone she could sink her tooth into.
She very animatedly asked "hilda" how she felt about my comment. "Hilda" blew it off as did everyone else. Except mickey. She would not let go. I was chastised, berated and proclaimed to be an awful person.
I was lectured, scolded and advised how to rethink my prejudices.
Very helpful mickey, thanx.
In about a ten minute screed that was as juvenile (mickey was a 20-something with no experience in the real world save her sermons on diversity) as it was comical, embarrassing for her and her company and useless to anyone for anything other than a few laughs and a wake up call.
Those were the days...
