Because a full house would create a lot of noise, with both cheering and jeering.

Joe was barely able to contain himself from emotional outbursts when his mind was functioning somewhat normally. Now, the crowd reaction would so distract him he’d go flying off the rails and it wouldn’t look good to have Jill constantly go up and bring him back.

The left is simply trying to minimize the embarrassment and keep the illusion of a functioning president alive.
