But it is essentially double jeopardy being practiced simultaneously rather than sequentially. I see it as a violation of the 5th amendment as did most Americans until 1922 when the supreme court ruled in favor of allowing multiple charges for essentially the same crime.

While it makes it easier to convict Chauvin of the most severe crime (if it was only a second degree murder charge, the prosecution risked losing), it also makes it easier to convict any other John Doe under different circumstances. People should be very uneasy with this loophole.
