First of all, fans will assume half their HS recruits will transfer out anyway, which will make them less interested in the process.
Second, coaches will prioritize the "transfer portal" (for proven/experienced players) over HS recruits that will likely transfer out anyway (especially once richer schools will be able to bribe the best players with lucrative "endorsement" deals under the pretense of "NIL").
It could spell the end of "recruiting services" like 247 and Rivals. The transfer portal won't be nearly as interesting to cover due to uncertainty over which players will enter it, and how much shorter the time frame is.
Honestly, I'll probably lose interest in recruiting for the reasons mentioned above, and possibly college sports in general if there's no roster continuity and the richest schools are openly bribing and plucking the best talent without any restrictions, oversight, or consequences.
