How are guns different than drugs and booze. We've banned both at various times in the past and aggressively sought to enforce those bans. Our experience is bans don't work when there's a demand for the banned good.

I.e. people wanted booze and prohibition failed, people wanted drugs and the war on drugs failed. If there's a demand for guns (there is), then someone will find a way to meet that demand whether it's legal to do so or not. And there will be lots of guns floating around.
