First, the left was very pro free speech until they became capable of quashing speech they don't like. Remember when colleges campuses were supposed to be a laboratory of ideas? Now dissenting views are actively silenced.

And yes, allow stupidity to be expressed openly where it can be challenged, mocked and beaten down by better ideas. The concept of silencing "hate speech" is wrong on many levels. But most functionally is that it actually allows it hang around for much longer.
