I do not agree with most of your opinions but I wholeheartedly agree with your take that there are no serious discussions here (or at least they are few and far between). But you can basically say that about any forum, whether online or personal. People are so dug in they refuse to even consider someone else's opinion.

That is a shame that people are so close-minded and intolerable. I have a friend who is from Mexico and here on a Green Card. She is more or less a socialist, but we have a lot of civil discussions via text and otherwise about politics. I respect her right to have an opinion, and she respects mine and we have some nice discussions. Hearing her side of things has often made me take another look at an issue and I have learned a lot from her.

I heard former Senator Jack Danforth on the radio earlier today. This country desperately needs someone like him who was able to reach across the aisle and get things done. This refusal to compromise on anything (and both sides are guilty of that) is leading this country to ruin.
