staff of the football program — in particular the HC.
Nothing else matters if you don't have a top 20 coach at the helm, including the $100 MILLION we recently spent upgrading our facilities.
The bottom line is that if you're Mizzou and you're lucky enough to win the "coaching carousel" lottery (as we may have with Drink), then you DO NOT let that once-in-a-generation opportunity slip through your fingers.
Being in the SEC allows us to pay a Top salary ($6+ mil/year if needed), with the added benefit of long-term job security that "powerhouse" programs like Auburn can't match due to expectations of 10-2 or better seasons, every year. At Mizzou, you could average 8-4 and have a 5-7 season on occasion, as Pinkel did.
With the new ESPN/ABC deal, Mizzou will have a Top 25 AD budget nationally, ahead of schools like Clemson and Oregon. And if our FB and BB programs start winning, we could jump into the Top 15-20. The money is there.
