With only the tiniest amount of self-discipline he could have erased the errors that cost him so much, and without giving up any votes on the other side. Who would he have lost if he had acted at the first debate the way he did at the second? If he had just restrained himself talking about McCain? If he had played the Hunter Biden thing a little smarter? I would argue probably no one.
He was very, very close, but he is so undisciplined, so impulsive, he just couldn't help himself.
And, I'd add that impulsivity and lack of discipline, in addition to being disadvantage to a candidate, are not desirable qualities in a President.
