Essentially, Amazon is importing product on their paper and listing it as destined for “ultimate consignee”, which is an Amazon customer they do fulfillment for in one of their warehouses to avoid import taxes when In fact they are acting as a fulfillment center for merchants and facilitating imports. Ultimate consignee is supposed to mean the final user of the product, not a merchant reselling imported merchandise through a 3rd Party like Amazon.
This will be a huge impact on Amazon and provide a more level playing field for the small And medium businesses who could not take advantage of such an import agent. The net result is cost of doing business for Amazon just went way, way up.
I’m no fan of tariffs at all but if they exist there should not be any explicit or implicit advantage to the large over the small.
