is that perpetual victimhood, which is a huge problem in the black community, only leads to perpetual poverty and violence.
Also left unsaid is that you can throw all the money you want at a problem, but unless there is buy in for the people who are affected by the problem, you'll get nowhere.
I think education in the inner city is a great example. The federal government has spent billions to boost inner city schools, in all manner. Yet, it's pretty clear that if Mom doesn't have help with a Dad and also Mom doesn't bother to show up for PTA meetings, daughter and son are going to struggle with school. Struggling with school is the jumping off point for a ton of other problems...gangs, drugs, prison, death.
The focus from a black perspective in this country is always on the past, never on the future. Meanwhile, many immigrants and/or other racial groups with as many or just as many "obstacles" are lapping them. Nigerians for example. Within a generation or two, kids of Nigerian immigrants are doctors, accountants, engineers.
Shapiro also noted something that is often overlooked by racism stokers. There is a large black middle class in this country. Only about 1/5th of blacks live in the inner cities of America.
