How does a dispatcher know how the call is going to go?


I was once on an assist MedAct on a medical call when a guy in an easy chair suddenly pulled a butcher knife and had it raised over his head at the paramedic kneeling at his feet and looking through his med kit for a BP cuff.

What if a social worker had been standing alongside the guy instead of 2 cops backing MedAct on the call?
