in the middle of a global pandemic, where Boone County positive cases have exploded in the last 4 weeks. All before those 30,000 students from all over the state and country descending on campus next month.
I’ll be shocked if the SEC doesn’t follow suit by the end of July and join the B1G and PAC 12 in eliminating all non conference games for the fall sports, going with a shortened season, which will most likely also involve rearranging all conference games to start around Sept 1 so they can finish by around November 1.
Playing conference only games will affect the VB team in particular, harming the ability of the team to qualify for a national seed and home regional.
But everything is so fluid. Hard to know at this point exactly what will happen in the fall. But the chances of the fall sports not happening at all, versus happening with an abbreviated season with limited fans in attendance, has increased significantly in just the last few weeks.
Hope everyone out there, wherever you live, are taking this seriously, taking the appropriate precautions, both for the health of you and your family and friends and also your community at large.
Mask up and stay safe.
