I've always suspected that StL violence may be hampering our recruiting more than the petty complaints we seem to hear from area coaches (about Mizzou). St.L coaches may want to get kids out of there, and Mizzou is too close. (Going to Mizzou allows for too many weekends back in St.L.) I do believe this has more to do with recruiting misses than claims of Mizzou constantly falling short of programs that are having success there.
That being said, it would be noble for coaches to look out for kids in this way. However, that's not addressing the issue of the violence there. It seems that marches and protests regarding neighborhood or community violence in general only occurs in tv shows. This can only be called an isolated incident because it touched a name known across that state. Reality tells us that it is a common occurrence that those not directly involved habitually move on from such tragedies in less than half a day.
I don't know if we'll see a day when StL stops making excuses for StL. The NFL is gone & not coming back. That wasn't just greed, but good business. The Cardinals will begin to feel this as well. It's a shrinking metro, and there are no signs that the local politicians and leaders take it seriously at all. There's always someone else to blame.
