His response was totally within the bounds of reason. If the assailant had struck his target, he could have incapacitated the officer, and possibly retrieved the officer's firearm, and killed the officer.
Your senseless ramblings bear no resemblance to the realities on the ground.
You paint a fairy tale picture of the assailant, and pretend this wasn't potentially life threatening for the officer. In the real world, it was.
