Would they not get the total payroll number simply from IRS numbers on taxes submitted? Seems like total employed should be relatively easy. It is also fairly easy to determine how many people are filing for unemployment.

Not sure what you mean by "all jobs are created equal" as to do with it.

I have no idea how they do the survey part.....which tries to estimate how many are looking for a job.

Obviously, this only truly accounts for those that are not being paid under the table as well, and to some extent self-employed.
