Doug Vaughn: Your old coach at Missouri, Mike Anderson, came back with Arkansas. It stirred some emotions when he came back to Columbia. Did his departure leave a bad taste in your mouth at all?
Kim: No. Not at all. I was happy he left. If he would’ve stayed, I would’ve left. It is no secret that we didn’t get along. I was not upset that he left at all. Laurence was upset that he left. He was close with him, but that’s about all. Fans were upset, but I thought Missouri turned out better in getting Coach Haith.
McKernan: What do you think went on or what do you know went on with the exchange between him and Coach Haith after Phil made that three?
English: It wasn’t when Phil hit the three. It was when Earnest was on the fast break and got fouled, and Arkansas called a timeout. And Coach Haith was emotional and jumped out on the court and fist pumped, and Mike Anderson looked down and something was said. And Coach Haith said, Don’t worry about me. Worry about your team. And I guess took a step towards him, he was held back. We beat them by 90 and that was that.
he Cat: I thought it was disrespectful that Anderson said that he left Haith with a Final Four team and people should thank him for that. It kind of, to me, demeaned what Haith had done at Missouri.
English: Not only Haith, but Norm Stewart. Jon Sundvold. Anthony Peeler. Derrick Chievous. All those Elite Eight teams. All those Big 8 Championship teams. In his eyes I assume, he believes that nothing existed before Mike Anderson got there, which is very egotistical and arrogant and out of taste for him to say. I didn’t want to feed into it. We were the better team. We will continue to be the better program and happy we won the game.
The Cat: But, you did tweet out boo that man
English: I was more immature than I wanted to be during that week. And moreso, over the years since he left, I just had a lot of built up frustration from my junior and senior years and I was kind of just letting it all out, if you will.
Vaughn: What was your frustration with him? Was it a personal thing? Or you didn’t like the way he coached? What was the problem?
Kim: A little bit of both. It is a year gone, almost two years gone. I’m over it. I’m happy for him. I’m genuinely happy that Mike Anderson is at a place he really wants to be. I’m happy for his family. I love his coaching staff, love those guys. I’m happy for them. Happy we got Coach Haith; happy I got to finish my career at Missouri most importantly.
