If "anyone" or some "randoms KU fan could have successfully moved the program forward" then they would not pay these men the millions that they pay them. One of the biggest problems Martin or any others in his situation faces is that it takes years to develop a program that performs at a n adequately high level. High ranking talent pretty much demand that level of performance - which paradoxically is very hard to manage without said high level talent. It takes TIME. And this board and many fan bases want it done NOW. Three yrs you SOB or you're done. It takes near genius to do that.
I see WI as a good role model - building a program based on solid but not spectacularly talented kids who stick around for 4 yrs. Upper classmen win gaames. You build a culture that attracts talent also. Martin ALREADY has guys playing high-end Defense. A great feat. Guy needs time and if fans run new coaches off every few years for lack of winning NOW, then you will never DEVELOP anything.
