Working out burns calories, and ramps up the metabolism to burn more quite awhile afterwards, but if you add them up it is miniscule in relation to calories needed to lose a pound of fat. The other issue is that it also makes you hungrier.
Exercise is needed for good health, but not necessarily as much as we did when younger.
The real key to weight loss by far is diet.
Dr. Fung has some great videos on youtube regarding intermittent fasting. He also has some great books on the subject. I got one from the library a year or two ago. The science is real and it tends to go against conventional wisdom, but it really works.
He is very well known for helping Type II diabetics reverse their disease. He does that primarily by helping them lose weight... often a LOT of it.
I highly recommend reading &/or watching what he has to say. Search youtube for his videos & interviews. He has a huge following, even in the medical community.
