of the best Mizzou athletes since 1998.
I thought he could have been as high as 10 give or take. Coming in at only 20 tells us a few things and sets up some questions regarding the non revenue sports athletes.
The first big takeaway is that Blaine Gabbert won’t make the top 30, and there will be just 4 QBs. James Franklin will be coming up soon, certainly by the time #15 rolls around. I think Lock, for all his gaudy stats, got downgraded by his minimal impact on significant team accomplishments. I always thought Lock and Franklin were pretty close to each other, and same thing with Brad Smith and Chase Daniel. But Gabbert was always a distant 5th to those 4, and no way he will be ranked ahead of Lock. So he’s out. Which is good, hopefully that leaves another slot for a non Football/MBB rep.
We always knew some sports were going to get shut out of the list and Lock at #20 should assure that. Seriously, is there a soccer player, or golf, or tennis who achieved more than Drew Lock?
I really hope Jordan Frericks joins Sophie C. In the top 30. But would Matter rank her ahead of Lock? Likewise Emily Crane and Sami Fagan. One or both deserves to be in the top 30 to join Chelsea Thomas. Likewise for 1-2 more VB players. But will Matter put those 4-5 players higher than Drew Lock? I certainly hope so.
I will be shocked if the top 6, in some order, aren’t J’den Cox, Sophie, Chase Daniel, Karissa, Brad Smith, Chelsea Thomas. Are there any serious candidates to be in the top 6 that would push any of them out?
