Even if it means they test all players/essential staff and play in empty stadiums.
They'll lose too much money sitting out a full season. Even if we don't have a vaccine yet, we should at least have ways to quickly detect infections, and if we know all the players are healthy before a game is scheduled to start, there's no reason not to play in empty stadiums.
Sports had to be canceled this spring/summer because we didn't even have a way to quickly determine who had the virus, so once one person got it, everyone was at risk. But if we can at least confirm athletes, coaches, and the essential personnel to put on a broadcast are all OK, then I expect the games will go on.
Of course, that's much easier with 32 NFL teams than it is with all college teams, so I wouldn't be shocked if professional sports resume but college does not.
