In a sense. I don't know how far you'd take the automatic berth idea, but I'd like to see an expanded playoff field (16 teams) where every single conference gets an automatic bid for the champion (10 teams), with the remaining spots filled with at-large teams (6).

Realistically, we all know most conferences do not have a serious national title contender in any given year. But including every conference by default and then including six at-large bids ensures every team with even a remotely legitimate claim will be in, and then the eventual champion will have indisputably earned it on the field.
