visit campus more than once every 8 years but I still say the best, most fair way is to completely eliminate permanent cross division rivalries. I realize this is coming from a fan of a team new to the conference that doesn’t have long standing rivalries here but I wish this discussion wasn’t such a non starter for some schools. It’s not like Bama would be giving up the UT game permanently. They would still meet fairly often and the game may actually become better for their fanbases with a year or two pause between meeting on the field. I believe divisions should be kept for the simple fact a loss does not hurt you as bad if there are divisions. I feel like you keep a lot more teams fanbases interested throughout the season if they still have a shot at a division title. If you eliminate divisions you almost instantly make it a 2 or 3 team race for the title game and fans that teams have 1 or 2 losses will stop paying attention. To me, the only permanent games should be playing the teams in your division and then you rotate through the teams in the other division. If you added a ninth game in this format and eliminated a non con game even better. You would cycle through the league pretty quickly that way.
