Trump and his advisors were not government officials at the time...although to me, they can talk to whomever they want at any time.
Murphy is a member of the government. He is free to talk to others under that capacity. What would your response had been if he asked Trump, and Trump refused to let him talk.
What about when the Republican Congress invited the Israeli leader to speak in front of them without going through Obama first?
There is convenient hypocrisy on both sides.
