college student. I was a member of a student organization that received an opportunity to attend a meet and greet with Gov. Ronald Reagan, who was running for the republican nomination in 1976. We gathered at the airport and after the pressies had briefly interviewed the future President the student group lined up to shake his hand and then pose for a group photograph. Everyone, except me. As a member of a staunch democrat family, I declined to shake his hand and did not get in the photo, because I didn't want to be tainted by association with a famous republican. By 1980 I came around to the realization that most of what I had been taught about politics was garbage and I voted for Reagan against Carter. I have regretted my foolish refusal in 76 ever since.
