They do it differently, with a top 44, released one team per day up until the season starts. They make a lot of mistakes, but have decent write ups of the teams. They are down to the last 15 teams, and an interesting note is neither Missouri or Oregon made their top 44.
Right now I think Mizzou is probably in the 20-35 range, with a lot of unknowns, with pitching the key. If Schumacher and Weber are the real deal, I think we will be around 20th, with a potential to get as high as 15. If they are not ready for prime time, somewhere in the 30-35 range is more realistic.
But not being in the top 44 is ridiculous. Unless they decided to not include Mizzou at all in their preseason picks because we are on probation.
Oregon is another unknown, after the train wreck season they had last year with all the transfers. But they are replenishing their roster, especially with transfer pitchers to fill their biggest weakness last year, and I suspect it’s not too long before they are back in the top 25, though I don’t see them assuming their usual top 5-10 type team for awhile. The D1softball poll has them at #19, which is probably too high until we see what their new pitchers can do. But not having them in the top 44 in the country is foolhardy.
The top 15 teams in the CSM preseason poll are going to come from this group of teams:
Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU, Florida, Bama
Oklahoma, Ok State, Texas
UCLA, Arizona, Washington
Michigan, Minnesota
Florida St
ULL
Which sounds about right. Very little difference in the top 15 between CSM, D1softball, and FloSoftball preseason picks.
D1softball has Northwestern at 13 and Georgia at 15, and Michigan and Kentucky just outside the top 15 at 18 and 17. And FloSoftball has NW at 13 and James Madison at 14, with Florida at 16 and Kentucky at 24.
I actually like the CSM top 15 teams better than the other 2 polls that are out, but will be interested to see what order they come in at.
The NFCA and ESPN polls are still to come.
