The elite tier obviously is:
Blair, TAMU
Schaefer, Miss St
Mitchell, Kentucky
Staley, SC
The second tier include good coaches, some relatively younger, at schools that (except for Tennessee), are improving and trying to establish themselves as first division SEC and top 25 teams:
Harper, Tennessee
Neighbors, Arkansas
White, Vandy
Taylor, Georgia
Fargas, LSU
Williams-Flournoy, Auburn
The third tier is my ok but nothing special, or still unproven group:
Curry, Alabama
Newbauer, Florida
McPhee-McCuin, Ole Miss
Coach Pingeton is clearly not in the elite tier. She fits somewhere in the crowded second tier along with 6 other coaches. The Auburn coach is probably at the bottom of the second tier, but at least she has a signature feature, her pressure defense that evens the playing field against better teams. My feeling is RP fits in somewhere towards the bottom of the 7 coaches in that tier.
Another way to look at it is this: how many schools in the second tier would trade their current coach for Pingeton? I would say none, and for Tennessee, Arkansas, Vandy, Georgia, and LSU it would be an emphatic heck no.
And then there is the flip side, from the Mizzou fan perspective: who would you take right now, over RP, if you had a magic wand? For me it’s all the first tier coaches (obviously), plus the coaches at Tennessee, Vandy, Arkansas, Georgia, and probably LSU.
So I guess I’d rank Pingeton in the 9-10 range of SEC coaches.
