Perot. I knew that my vote for Perot was likely to be meaningless. And while I preferred Bush to Clinton (slightly) at that time I understood that my vote might very well help my least preferred candidate. But in a completely rational way, I voted for Perot anyway b/c I wanted my vote to be a statement on the system (in simplistic terms). That is rational, not irrational. and really what is or is not rational is subjective in many cases.
also in the ice cream example. you order vanilla when presented with vanilla and chocolate options. but when presented with the 3rd option of strawberry you suddenly switch your order to chocolate. this is described by the author as crazy. when in fact it could be as simple as making some association like ooooh strawberry and chocolate go together really well and in fact while I don't want the strawberry I am changing my mind b/c it reminded me I am actually craving chocolate. Rational, not crazy.
both are dumb examples that frankly, have very little to do with his overall point and really he's assuming a collective irrationality to those decisions in his examples when there could be myriad rational reasons for making those choices.
