Control of that is incredible power. I don't know much about right wing or left wing conspiracy theories but I do know that a whole host of special interests groups from both sides of political thought want that power and would (and do) use it to both impose upon and control the citizen.
What you want for yourself, your family and your hopes, dreams and needs for the same are meaningless to those who seek that power. The only way to curb that desire is to make it a much less powerful instrument
