Why do people support such a clearly unqualified and destructive person? It has to be that he is perceived as a stronghold for certain ideals that are so powerful that no flaw can overcome.
Thinking out loud:
1. Anti-socialism. The democrats are floating wealth raiding taxes and trillions in new welfare programs;
2. He hates liberals. Most of us hate liberals.
I think it's that simple. I don't know if he needs anything else.
The democrats don't recognize the simplicity of his message and are not even responding to it. They are not going to win by pointing out his massive and obvious personal flaws and inability to lead or his destructive and juvenile behavior. They will only win if they reject socialism.
