I see a lot of posts on here about the death of offense and whatnot and felt like that probably wasn't true, so here you go. Teams are still scoring. Scoring has been up considerably over the past five years.
Nowhere lists average points per game, so the numbers below are the median team's PPG (closest I could get to average) and the second number is the #1 scoring team's PPG.
2019: 69.8 (88.5)
2018: 71.1 (87.6)
2017: 72.9 (86.6)
2016: 72.5 (89.8)
2015: 72.3 (86.4)
2014: 67.0 (83.6)
2013: 70.1 (85.4)
2012: 67.0 (80.4)
2011: 67.3 (82.9)
2010: 68.1 (85.0)
2009: 68.3 (86.1)
2008: 67.1 (90.2)
2007: 68.6 (88.6)
2006: 68.6 (95.6)
2005: 68.3 (82.8)
2004: 68.4 (88.0)
2003: 68.9 (87.1)
2002: 70.0 (85.2)
2001: 70.9 (90.1)
2000: 70.5 (92.0)
1999: 70.1 (88.0)
1998: 69.4 (91.8)
1997: 69.8 (97.0)
That's as far back as the numbers go.
