And 9-11 had little to do with police requiring a higher level of equipment designed to afford protection and superiority because the criminals are better equipped than ever before.
Police switched from revolvers to semi-automatics in the 1980's because criminals had already made that jump, mostly with 9mm. While police had 6 shot revolvers and usually carried 12 more rounds of spare ammo, a 9mm could have 14-18 rounds in one magazine.
When Overland Park switched to Berettas years ago, they carried 2 spare mags giving them far greater firepower than they had ever had. My wife dispatched a fire fight with an armed robbery suspect where one officer was out of ammo with his revolver and the other dropped the suspect with his last round. The suspect still had ammo in his 9mm when he was taken out.
Tactical vests serve many purposes and you are clueless about why they are worn today.
So if you want to make incorrect generalizations, go put on a uniform and do the job. Quit showing your stupidity.
