a vast difference between Sterk making a cool, calculated decision based upon interest from available candidates vs a knee-jerk reaction with little to no prior exploration and planning on possible replacements... who had an interest & who didn't.
If he was reaching out in an exploratory phase before the firing being turned down by one or more is not that big of a deal if he found what looked like a significant upgrade who was very interested in coming to Mizzou.
If he fired Odom in a fit of anger & then started scrambling to find a replacement and is turned down by one or more coaches he thought he could hire, that would be a much worse scenario.
