People are entrenched in their positions because they seem to hate the other side. Each sees the other as stupid, prejudiced, and delusional and each sees the other side as being more so. The idea that we are united seems preposterous unless we come togther after some horrific attack.
Putin must be laughing as countless intelligence sources confirm that Russia orchstrates and propagates sources which cause chaos and division. Facts presented by 1 MSM source are discounted by another.people really don't know what to beleive. Moderation and objectivity seems to be a thing of the past.
I was fortunate to spend the majority of my life before the internet was easiy accessible by nearly everyone everywhere. There weren't smatphones.I think social media contributes significantly to our problems, it escalates people's anger. You didn't have kids bringing or planning to bring ARs to shoot their classmates when I grew up. It didn't happen. Social media permits more bullying and stupidity to be readily visible and obviously, we can see the results. People's anger is escalating as they need anti-depressants and anxiety meds to cope.
I don't see this changing at all anytime while I remain alive. Don Sr. will be replaced by Don Jr. as what matters isn't the man but the brand and the ability to be embraced by 40% because the enemy of my enemy is my friend. People hate SJWs and PC and the left generally seems oblivious to how offensive this is (interestingly, Obama, recognized this and addressed it recently).
So here were are, locked in seldom civil debate, but too often name calling. bullying. and a lack of even trying to understand the other side. It's sad but the direction we're headed in, is sadder.
