....
The qualifier "that we could reasonably have with our athletic department budget that ranks 12th in the SEC"
Mizzou will never dominate or be elite in any either of the two major sports when they choose to rank 12th in their own conference.
It's what makes Gary Pinkel's performance here even more outstanding and more impressive than people understand.
Even still, with the amazing job Pinkel did, we couldn't win a conference title or national title. We came close, but yet we knew we were still too far away. We faced Oklahoma twice, Alabama and Auburn and all 4 of those teams we played against in the CCG were loaded with 5 and 4 star players. And no surprise, they all beat us all 4 times.
Point is... Mizzou needs to buck up and pay a huge name, big national coach and give the man $10 million a year if need be. And give him whatever resources he asks for.
It may sound like a lot of money to a small-time loser. Cause that's loser-think. And Mizzou has always had it.
But the reward Mizzou would benefit from by turning their football program into a national blue blood (like Clemson has) would be the biggest thing to ever happen to the school.
Money would come pouring in. Some of these schools have turned their sports success into a century-long windfall of profits.
Mizzou thinks in years.
Winners think in decades and centuries.
